Ok, I though I knew my 870's but after reading the recent threads I'm all confused? 870 Express is the base model and the 870 Police is made in different spot in the factory with better QC, right?. What about the 870 Magnum? The 870 Tactical? Is the 870 Express Magnum just a regular Express with the magnum name to sound cool or is it like a 870 Magnum?:runaway:

When I was looking at 870 I found this.
  • 870 magnum-takes 2+3/4, 3, 3+1/2 shells
  • 870 tactical- only takes 2+3/4, 3 inch shells, comes with 18.5 inch barrel
  • 870 express magnum takes 3+1/2 inch shells unlike regular express

I bought the 870 tactical, as it came with a Knoxx stock on it, right out of the box. Basically, I think magnum refers to it's ability to take 3+1/2 inch shells.

Another thread stated that the action on the Express is not as smooth. At which model does it get smoother? There was a note in the WSS catalogue that the Express was not compatible with LE accessories?

Smooth 870 action

The smoothest I have found are the 870 Wingmaster models and the Special Field (I have a combination of 3 of these guns) the fit and finish is superior to the express(i have owned and sold one of these)...I should state that although some people see these(wingmaster) as "furniture" guns I use mine for hunting waterfowl and upland in all weather...you can smooth out the action by simply sitting in front of the TV or someone you want to bother and just pump the action a thousand or so times...with lubrication...that should take off the rough metal burrs and edges.

Express is cheap entry level, can shoot 2.75, 3. It can shoot 3.5 if it is a super magnum. It has a bead blasted blued finish.

Wingmaster is step up, polished blue and refined a bit more, smoother action.

Police is pakerized and is made in a separate part of the factory. It is cleaned up and made sure every part fit exact and is checked against a check list to ensure reliability.

All parts are interchangeable (correct me if I am wrong).

You are right. Took me two months to figure it out. I should have waited for your post!
