sorry, don't have much info on this except that i've been told by a few people that the new 870's with the 3.5" chamber are having a problem with failure to eject a spent shell. wondering if any of you have heard of this, and if so, how do you remedy it?

Remington pump and semi auto shotguns have the ejection ports rounded at each end. I was having a similar problem with a Model 1100 that would stovepipe. The shell casing would hang up on the front of the port.

I disassembled the shotgun and filed the port square at the breech. I didn't extend the length of the port, just filed it square. After at least a thousand rounds, I've never had another ejection problem.

Ironnose, This is off topic, please accept my apology.
This is in regard to a Trigger guard you had a question about.
I can't seem to get a hold of you any other way.
PM me or 303carbine for details.
If pm doesn't work, email me.

bearhunter, i think I'm having the same issue with my 870. If you pump it really hard sometimes it doesn't like to eject the empty. I tryed it slowly and it looks like the crimp is dragging on the front of the ejection port. This is with 2 3/4" shells in a 3" gun.

i not exactly sure, but a buddy was looking to buy one, and the salesman told him there was an issue with it not ejecting spent shells properly. then i asked around, and a few people told me they had the same issue, but it seems it's on;y the 3.5 " chambers.

just wanted to know if any of you had fixed a few of them with this complaint?

I fixed mine by running several hundred rounds through it :)

It only did it with the el cheapo target loads. Now it is fine. It is the 870 super mag express. I've also heard of polishing the chamber as a quicker means, but I think my way was more fun.

Well I put around 1500-2000 rounds through mine and it would still have the shell jammed in the chamber from time to time. Recently I used steel wool on a brush hooked up to a power drill. I gave it a good polishing to say the least and I'll field test it soon.

It was mostly the winchester universal shells from walmart that caused jams, but federal too sometimes. Seemed to be worse when the gun was hot.

I have encountered several dozen Remington 870 shotguns (particularly the express model). With extraction problems. In almost all cases this problem was due to burrs on the barrel extension at the rim recess at the mouth of the chamber. When a shell is fired the metal head expands and forces the rim into the recess and extraction is hindered by the expanded rim being forced over the burrs. This problem is particularly bad with the cheap Winchester shells. Remove]al of the burrs with a scraper almost always eliminates this extraction issue.
