Need some advice.A good friend just passed away and I am trying to move some of his stuff for his wife.I am trying to get some input on the value of a remington 870 police magnum with a remington 14 inch barrel with rifle sights.Haven`t been able to find one to compare it too.
Any info would be helpful.
Thanks

Sorry for the loss Steveo!

Value is probably between $800-$1000.00 depending on how fast she wants it gone and what model it is.... blued? parkerized? Wood? Plastic? Bead sight?

$800 to $1000 dollars is top of the line EE price ( stuff that takes months to sell ) with many BTTs and price drops back down to reality

For a used 870 police magnum, list price should be 600$ to 700$ tops and it will be gone within the week

Noone is buying police Magnums for 1000$

Sorry for your loss OP

I think a mint blued 14" walnut might get "Noone" exicted or perhaps someone.... :) But given that we now know it's not a mint blued walnut specimen I would agree that $1000 is not going to result in a quick sale.

You're probably right, but you just never know - All it takes is one motivated buyer. Right or wrong, it's how this market works.

Obviously it's up to the seller to decide how long they're willing to have something for sale. Steveo is getting some useful feedback here for that. On that front, look at the price you're seeing for 870 Express shotguns, and add whatever premium you think a serious 870P buyer is willing to pay. You might even get more for it if you part it out, since Police receivers and 14" barrels can be hard to find.

Buyers and sellers are all individuals with different motivations, and I won't judge someone for trying to get top dollar for whatever they're selling. I do gripe about the clutter of BTT posts for "optimistically priced" items in the EE, but CGN has their motivations for allowing this, too.

IMHO the 14” mod choke police barrel with “regular” rifle sights is pretty rare, is it not, especially compared to the much more common cyl bore 14”?

I’d say it’s not as common, add to the mix the lack of inventory in the retail world right now. Good luck finding anything comparable to buy on the new market, so price it accordingly.

Unrelated in make/model but try finding a new Ruger gunsite scout in .308 for sale. There just aren’t any on the shelves, prices on the used market are high but that’s the reality of supply and demand right now.

Ok, so what was this gun selling for new a couple of years back?

$1000.- to $1100.- ???

So you folks are saying that in used condition it would be selling for the same price??

And we are not talking about a pristine mint specimen new in box ... never fired ...
as far as I understand it ... we are just talking about an ordinary 870 police ... parkerized ... that has been used quite a bit ... ??

I wouldn’t call a 14” rifle sight 870P ordinary. They aren’t common by any means. It should fetch more than an 18” or 20” 870P.

I’d love to get my hands on one personally but likely not in the cards at this time.

Think I am going to keep it and just give his wife the cash.Something of his to remember.
Thanks for all the info.

That sounds like the perfect solution. I have a couple of low profile rifle sight 14” 870p guns but I have never even seen that one other than online. So I expect your friend sure didn’t have it “by accident.” Should be a great gun, and a great conversation piece for anyone that knows 870s, as well as a reminder of your friend.
