Can anybody tell me what is wrong with my 870 shotgun......It ejects out of the bottom of the action instead of the side? It also ejects loaded shells in the magazine out of the bottom when trying to feed them into the chamber?

You either have an Ithica or a browning BPS. It is impossible for a shell that is chambered to get past the feeding ramp to allow for bottom "ejection" in an 870. Although, shells from the mag may release when the ramp is up, causing them to come out the bottom

One of your shell latches is worn. (I believe it's the left side latch).

Put in a dummy round and work the action slowly and watch which latch is not holding the shell properly, then replace it.

Even if one of the shell latches is worn or missing, the shell carrier is still there and will prevent a shell from going out the bottom. Shell latches is for releasing the foreend tube assembly so you can take it off with the bolt/slide assembly.

He might mean that a shells drops out of the mag tube when he racks the slide. Other than that, I don't know of any bottom eject 870s :)
Mine is side eject lol

The problem op is having is probably the shell latch and carrier malfunction. Once the foreend is pumped back midway and then stopped without going all the way back, the shell carrier lifts far enough (without the shell on it) so that the shell from magazine tube CAN get ejected from underneath. You can unload the entire magazine tube this way, without cycling the single shell through the chamber, all shells will fall right out of the mag tube one by one from the bottom, provided that you manipulate the latch with your finger.

OP,
I am willing to bet that your shell latch is busted or something, that bar the guy is pressing in the video, it's possible that yours is bent or damaged.

Check the video out below.

Thanks for that vid, very helpful. OP specifically said it ejects spent shells out the bottom which is of course impossible with an 870.. Hopefully what he/she meant is the shotgun is dumping live rounds on the ground out the bottom. In which case it is a lifter/spring issue.

Good explanation of how to empty the magazine....BUT I wasn't too keen on pulling the trigger twice
in order to cycle the action...
