Does anyone know if a 870 with 14" barrel would still be legal length with a "birds-head" grip attached. Like this one,

Yes, I know THAT barrel is not 14" inch, but you get the picture.

The only way to be sure is to put one on the shotty and measure it out. As well depends on what you want to do with it i.e. range or wilderness carry...... A shotgun like that may catch the unwelcome attention of a conservation officer, even if its otherwise legit.

No, it is too short. The BIRDSHEAD GRIP and the frame measure 12 inches, add the 14 inch barrel, it would seem to be the right length but about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of the measured barrel is inside the frame. A 16 inch barrel would work, but so would an 18 1/2 inch barrel. This question was asked a few months back . There was a large amount of discussion. SEARCH "WITNESS-PROTECTION SHOTGUN w/14" barrel"

If all else fails, and this is the style you need for backpacking, etc, you could always carve your own and make sure it's long enough.
