870 Scout mount

Just day dreaming, do you guys think this would work? I have an 870 fully rifled cantilever barrel, could I turn the cantilever mount around, it's just held on by two screws. This should give me enough clearance to mount a hand gun scope, the scope would be positioned in the middle of the barrel. We hunt deer with hounds in Northern Ontario. I would like a fast handling gun for in the bush. with this mount I could shoot with both eyes open. Has anyone ever tried this? Thanks Rich.

If the barrel is totally untapered over the length to which the cantilever mount attaches, that would work. If there's any taper at all to it at that point, the mount won't sit correctly when reversed.
