the number on my gun is V428### and there is "V" slightly after it. so it looks like V428### V, now on my old LGR papers it doesnt list the "V" at the end. i am going to go shooting south saturday. i just pulled off the shell holder so they can look at the number of the gun compared to the Form6.

now is this last "V" a frame identifier suffix that denotes 12ga 2 3/4 frame? or is it a suffix that is part of the serial number.

i just dont want more of a hassle from CBP than i normally get.

If memory serves be correctly, the suffix 'V' represents 12 gauge.
Do you remember, approximately, what year your 870 was made?
The prefix 'V' is the date code. I think. :)

I know letters are date codes on older barrels. My memory could be wrong, nut I was thinking the letter prefix is finish (wing, police, express).

Anyways, if you really want to know call Remington. I phoned in once to get a receiver dated and they were really nice and helpful.
