870 sling and mount options?

I'd like to know what you guys use for a sling set up for bush carry with your 870. I'd like something that will be comfortable for long hikes but still quick enough to get into action. I see a lot of single point mounts but I'm guessing these wouldn't be very practical for bushwacking.

Depends on your barrel length. Short barrels will work with a single point.

Mounting options

1) Magazine cap with swivel stud and swivel stud in stock (2 point sling, very strong, african/american carry)
2) H&K SMG style (2 point)with sling mount between receiver and stock and a sling mount between the magazine and magazine cap/magazine extension.
This one isn't as strong and is only one sided aka Mp5, G3, Mauser k98
3) Single point sling just uses a mount between the receiver and stock.
4) 3 point sling. Attaches like 2 point to the gun but the shooter is the 3rd point. A little confusing at first, but allows you to drop it and transition to sidearm. I doubt its effectiveness for 2 point sling.

IMO, I think the classic mag cap and stock swivel stud is the strongest and best sling mounting option. Tried, tested.

Single point slings are good for short firearms and when you plan to hold onto your firearm the majority of the time.

For most long 870s a two point adjustable sling like the BFG Victory or VCAS or Viking VTAC work extremely well.

4) 3 point sling. Attaches like 2 point to the gun but the shooter is the 3rd point. A little confusing at first, but allows you to drop it and transition to sidearm. I doubt its effectiveness for 2 point sling.

Three point slings do attach like a two point however the difference is in the extra strap that runs along side the firearm, attaching the front of the sling to the back.

These slings usually have an adjustment on them to lengthen or shorten them, however most suck and all of them get caught on webbing and get in the way of mag changes, cocking and any immediate action drills.

Any good sling will allow you to transition to your sidearm.

The Blue Force Gear VCAS can be attached from the front sling point on the mag tube and then to the buttstock or to a single point sling mount.

I have my 870 MM sling mounted on the front in stock config (Barrel clamp on the mag extensions swivel stud) and on the back, as I have a Mesa Tactical LEO stock adapter, it is on a quick release sling mount on the side of the adapter itself. Then I mounted the stock MM nylon sling backwards.

I love this config as it allows me to carry (Gunsite calls is African carry) with the muzzle down on my weak side. It is stable and comfortable, but can be drawn more quickly than anything but a single point.

I had a single point set up but I found it got in the way more than anything. I can't inmagine ever changing from this sling setup. Not fancy, but comfortable and fast-Fast-FAST!

I have had a Specter Gear CQB 3-point sling on my 870 for quite some time and it is really comfortable and sturdy. It came with a GG&G front sling adapter, which is secured by the magazine tube cap or magazine extension. The GG&G front sling mount is the sturdiest front sling mount I have ever come across, and because it comes out the side it allows the gun to rest more comfortably and more securely against the body. The rear mount for the sling wraps around the butt-stock. The number of configurations you can have the 3-point sling in, makes it the most versatile for carrying your 870 around in the bush.

If you are more interested in a single-point sling, S&J Hardware makes a very nice single point sling mount.

When I find the 3-point sling too cumbersome, and want a bit more freedom of movement with the gun, I opt for a Specter Gear MOUT single-point sling. It attaches to the gun with a GG&G single-point sling mount that allows me to use an HK clip to attach the sling to the gun. The HK clip attaches and detaches quickly, but won't ever let go; I also have the option to use a quick release buckle with the MOUT sling.

Although the gun is more easily accessible with the single-point sling, the gun tends to swing around a lot.

A heavy duty 3-point sling would probably be more comfortable for the needs you're describing. I only have experience with Specter Gear slings and Spec Ops slings. Of the two, I would recommend Specter Gear.

The Uncle Mike's aftermarket magazine cap/swivel stud installed in the stock.

Don't care for a sling on a shotgun at all, but it was neccesary for fly-fishing in a lot of the back country of the eastern slopes of AB ... peace of mind if nothing else. Never used it !
