870 Stock Bolt Torque

They're typically a slotted screw right? I've never torqued one with a torque wrench or anything.

On the wood stocks, you have to make sure the metal bearing plate is in there, or the stock can chip and/or crack.

A lot of the newer stocks have the bearing plate built right in to the stock.

Just tighten it up enough that it's tight without harming anything. Tight enough to stay put.

I thought I had it pretty tight with a screwdriver but it loosened up after shooting some slugs the other day. I then put a torque wrench to it and snuged it up to 80 in lbs. Pretty confident it'll stay put now. I like using the torque wrench because I have a bad habit of tightening things until I break them.

I just confirmed my numbers. According to Burris, who say they got it from Remington, it's as follows:

Torque specs (from Remington)
870 wood stock 105 Lb-in
870 synthetic stock 80 Lb-in
11-87 wood stock 155 Lb-in
11-78 synthetic stock 130 Lb-in
