870 SuperMag 3.5'' receivers don't accept rifled barrels?

Mossberg and Remington who make replacement barrels for the 870 both state that the rifled offerings only fit 2.75 or 3.00 receivers. Does anyone know why the 3.5 SuperMag receiver isn't compatible?

This is what Mossberg answered me about it and I dont really understand what they mean. They seem to imply a loose fit on 3.5 receivers.

The 870 will have a ejection port suited for a 3.5 inch shell which also means the barrel extension will need to be that size as well for a tight fit. Our barrels do not have the proper length barrel extension.

I have install an 18" and 20"smooth bore 3" barrel on my 870 supermag so see no reason why a rifled barrel for a reg 870 would not work. Of course 3" max shell. Pretty sure I had the supermag barrel on one of my reg 870 as well. There probably is not a rifled barrel made with an 3.5" chamber.
 
A few years back, I sold a supermag 870 that came with two barrels ... a longer one chambered in 3.5” and a rifled barrel chambered in 3”. That was all stock Remington barrels and came as a set. So, they send a 3” chamber for their rifled barrels.
 
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen 3.5” super mag 870’s on the ee that came with a rifled barrel from the factory, as City Boy says the rifled barrel is likely a 3” chamber. Can’t say I have ever seen 3.5” 12g sabots for sale, the thought of shooting them makes me cringe lol. 3” magnum sabots are bad enough as it is.
 
I had a mossberg (made for Remington) fully rifled barrel w/ cantilever on my 870 super mag (3.5”) with zero issues, shooting accutips. Kicked like a 3 legged ninja! very accurate. It fit the receiver like my 14” Dlask and my 26” vented. Hope this answers your question.
 
I have the 2015-2016 Lebaron catalogue ( I believe the year before they closed ) and they list an 870 Express Super Magnum Combo ( hardwood stock ) with a 26 inch vent rib Rem choke barrel ( 3.5 inch chamber ) and a 20 inch,fully rifled deer barrel with rifle sights ( 3 inch chamber ).
 
yes I have the mossberg barrel on my 3.5 870 and it works fine. I just don't understand why mossberg says it won't work. They scare off customers and make process more confusing.
