870 Trade

A buddy of mine wants to do a strait trade, his old wingmaster 12g for my savage axis 308. Neither of us want to screw each other over so any imput is appreciated.

If you are both getting what you want who could get screwed over? Value is often more then just a price tag.

The old Wingmaster guns are nice.

If the Wingmaster is in excellent shape, you are getting a better end of the deal. Old Wingmaster's in excellent shape are highly sought after.

I'd do that trade in a second. Old Wingmasters are pretty awesome. If it's beat up... then it might be an even trade. Put it this way, I'm a Mossberg guy and I'd love a vintage WM.

The old wingmasters are tops as far as domestic pumps go , it's a quality gun. Axis rifles are way down at the bottom in quality as far as bolt rifles go, sounds like you'll be getting the better end of that deal.

How old? Wingmasters were not always a fancy, high end, shotgun. Always really friggin' good shotguns, but not with the fancy wood and finish they have now. However, as mentioned, an even trade isn't always about money. Even when you win.
It's not greener grass. Just different grass. You can think of your 500 as a low end 870. Well, more an entry level 870. Same thing only different, so to speak. Way more aftermarket stuff for 870's, if that matters. But an 870 isn't better than a 500. Think Chevy and Buick.

New Axis w/3-9 scope is $359 @ Cabela's plus there is a $50 rebate. Excellent condition Wingmaster is still worth more, in my opinion. If you guys are willing to swap straight up, do it. Savage Axis is an inexpensive rifle and the WM's are built like a tank. Good trade for you.
