I've had this 870 supermag for a few years now and never shot it much (maybe a few hundred shells)

The pump isn't exactly smooth and extraction is sometimes sticky.

I'm planning on polishing the chamber with a remel to ease out extraction

anything else I should consider to tweak it?

Yes, put the dremmel down and step away fron the gun.

Clean your gun in detail and buy quality shells. Stay away from the cheap Federal crap.

The 870's of recent production (last 3 to 5 years) do have some extraction issues due to not enough factory polishing of the chamber. (this is less prevelant in Wingmasters that are still polished to a higher spec than express models) Do not use your dremel for this job. Use a section of cleaning rod with a 12 bore bronze brush fitted. Place a light layer of 000 steel wool on the brush and use a good metal polish such as Flitz. Polish NOT compound. Use an electric drill at low speed and polish the chamber unil the breech are begins to feel warm. Let it cool and polish it again until it is warm. This will solve the extraction issue 99.9 % of the time. On a sanding block place some 600 grit emery paper and wherever your action bars are shiney polish them smooth. That's about all you can do on a 870 for basic improvement. Your gun was made to SAAMI standards and by god it should shoot and cycle everything from premium loads to dogs---. Then just shoot the heck out of it and it will only get better.

cheers Darryl
