870 w/ popped primer bent case

new to me used 870, cleaned it up, reassembled and test fired w a cut shell with primer only
fired but sounded soft, looked at the primer strike and the primer was popped and just hanging in by a sliver and the shell casing was cupped in a concave .
only thing i could think of was plugged flash hole?? dont want to live fire till i figure this out

Primers can pop from over or under pressure......


I would try it with a live shell, I bet it will work....

that is exactly what happens when you pop off a primer. It actually probably means your gun is normal.

Try it in an SKS and you will lock it up tighter than a frog's behind. Then you have to pound the primer back into the pocket with a rod through the barrel. True story. Don't ask me how I know this. I had to call an old milsurp collector and ask him what was wrong. He started laughing his ass off and told me how to fix it. He knew, because he had done the same thing years ago....

Also, don't pop off primers. Bad idea.
