I would like to ask Dan what velocities he was getting with imr 4895 in his 8mm06? Thankyou.

Ok, 56 gr of IMR4895 behind a 150 gr bullet, just under 3000 fps.
53 " " " " 175 " " 2852 fps avg.
50 gr " " " " 185 " " 2640 fps avg.
46 gr " " " " 200 " " 2435 fps avg.

All heavier bullets need a slower powder, and really the 200 gr will work better with a slower powder as well. I haven't run the 195 gr Hornadys through it yet (have a couple of boxes somewhere) - dan

Load info for 8mm-06 4895 powder 150 grain bullet

min load 57.0gr -2931 fps
mid load 59.0gr -3036 fps
MAX LOAD 61.0gr -3114 fps

always start low and work up for your rifle

Thanks 240Gord! But investing in the equipment, would make my few shots a year very expensive. I'd use it only to hunt deer. If there is someone making this ammo and want to make a few bucks! Cheers!

"...making this ammo and want to make a few bucks..." Reloading for money is illegal without the assorted licences.
"...my few shots a year..." 8mm-06 isn't loaded by any of the regular manufacturers. Strictly a reloaders cartridge. Quality Cartridge, Stateside, makes brass though. Don't think they have a Canadian distributor.
You should be practicing with your rifle. You have to sight it in as well.
