Just started to do the load work-ups for IMR 4064 and Hornady's 195gr spitzers. Using Hornady's own manual, they list the OAL as 3.250". Same manual says the maximum cartridge length is 3.228"? Something ain't right.

Question: what are others using for a OAL and this bullet?

While I am at it, where are you finding the accuracy in terms of velocity or grains? Rifle is a K98k.

Usually most military Mausers have a long throat and bullets can be seated out far. I make up a dummy round and mark the bullet with black marker and chamber it. If it comes out with rifling marks on it ,I screw the seater die down another turn and try again. I apply more black marker to the bullet and chamber it,if it comes out untouched by the rifling I turn the die 1/2 turn down again. It's not a very scientific way of getting cartridge overall length but it works, some guys use the candle blackening method but I don't like open flames around the reloading area.
My loads are not top loaded but clock in at 2585 fps and accuracy is 7/8ths of an inch consistently.
