I have recently acquired a 8mm mauser semi automatic rifle. It has the bore cleaning rod, a SS stamped on the receiver, magazine holds 8? 10? Triangular top receiver. it has a stand post front sight, plastic knob on the left side of the rear sight which is mounted just in front of the action. it adjust from 1 to 7 and is a dial that turns. There is a muzzle brake.

It has a letter b stamped at the end of the serial number.

1943 is stamped above the receiver

Built to counter the russian sniper rifles.

Does anybody know about these rifles? how common are they? what are they worth?

If it has a plastic knob on the left side of the rear sight it probably is a Swedish AG 42B Ljungman in 6,5x55 Swedish.
How did you come to the conclusion it was in 8mm Mauser? The only rifle having more than a passing resemblance with the Ljungman is the Egyptian Hakim in 8mm Mauser which is much bigger and has a more conventional sliding elevator rear sight. The front part of its muzzlebrake is also removable.
I would say that given the same condition, the Ljungman is worth just a bit more.
In any way, these two rifles are excellent shooters limited only by their military sights. Their trigger design is excellent, BTW.
Enjoy it. Watch your fingers, though!

If it's a Swedish AG42B it would be in 6.5x55 mauser and have the date stamped on the left side, and various crown stampings on the parts, as well as a brass disk in the stock identifying bore condition. Some pics and info:

If it's an Hakim, which is a copy of the AG42B made in Egypt, it would be in 8x57JS mauser, would probably have some arabic writing on it (I've never handled one), I think they had a crude muzzle brake. The link posted by ripstop has lots of pics.
Nothing german about these though so you are a little confused on the description.
As these are semi auto centerfire, the magazine would have to be pinned to 5 rounds from the original 10 that they hold.
Either one is worth $300, tops, for a mint condition example. Not a very remarkable firearm and overly complicated for a grunt to operate.

think they had a crude muzzle brake.
I might have looked crude but it was far more sophisticated than it looked. At least, it makes it easy to clean the insides of the expansion chamber.
I once had to replace the removable front part of that muzzle brake; someone had let the rifle fall on its end, bending the part.
One of my friends made a repro from the one on another Hakim I already had and he told me that part wasn't an easy one to machine.
Incidentally, the newly reproduced part was much better fitted and worked super.
That muzzlebrake is so effective you never lose sight of the target when shooting full power 8mm Mauser loads. But every one on the line hate you because it is so loud!
And that puff of gas in the face is something to get used to...
