hey
has anyone had any experience with this cartridge what are the pro's and con's of this round,i was thinking about building my own rifle and i like the 8mm so i would like any info on this round??? thank you for your comments and time.

I owned one for a few years but rebarreled it due to a limited selection of good bullets at the time.Ballistics wise it fits between the 300wby and 340wby.The 8mmremmag was a failure as a commercial round because it was loaded very mild with poor bullets from the factory, and the selection of 8mm bullets for reloaders was very limited.

It falls exactly between the 300 and 340 Wby. Essentially the same case capacity, with a bullet that is fifteen thousandths larger than the 300, fifteen thousandths smaller than the 340. 8)

The few guys I know who have one, figure it is the best of both. I think I would agree, but expect that the heavier bullets, around 220 gr or thereabouts, would be the way to go.

Craig Boddington has one and he loves it so it must be the best cartridge in the world. :D

to be a bigtime gun writer, don't you need a cartridge to hang your hat on?

I'm on my second rifle in this chambering and I find it very versatile, shoots as flat as most 30 cals. but has the punch of most 338's, I won't use a brake on a hunting rifle and I don't find the recoil bad but the stock needs to fit, bullets are getting more common now that the 325WSM has been introduced, a well built 200 gr bullet will do the job on pretty well anything and there's always the 220gr bullets and I have 250gr Hawks but i haven't tried them yet so I won't comment on them.

All in all very nice ballance of speed and power with more common brass that the Weatherby's and A decent selection of bullets and loading data.

I had a custom sako in the 8mag a few years back along with the 8x68S.I like the 8 mag alot, seems to be a great all around cartridge-very accurate.
I was getting around 3000-3100 with the 220gr hornady. This round really needs a
250gr nosler and it would be unstoppable.
I have played with the 250gr hawk with the heavey jacket and they performed well.

Yes it did have a green Mcmillan stock.
If that is the rifle it was made by the late Ron Propp and it was a shooter. As all of the rifles he made for me were.Does your rifle have a stainless or blued barrel?

thanks

8mm mag

I have one in Remington Classic. I haven't got a chance to play with it much. Just got my scope today for it, I'll be shooting lots very soon.
The little I have shot it, I was very impressed. Kick is easily managed, no worse than a 12 gauge 3".
