Took my M700 BDL out to the range today to try some 220gr Sierra and she performed very well. Started at 83grs of RL25 and worked up to 87grs.

Here is the 87gr load. She tightened up as the charge increased.

I also took my M70 in .300 Wby and was shooting some 200gr Speer HCSP over 83grs of RL25. Shot well too.

Nice groups. I've tried the 220 Sierra in my 8 Mag, but prefer the 220 Hornady, I think it's a tougher bullet. Out of production now sadly. I've also used 250 gr Woodleighs in this rifle (Rem 700 action, 26" bbl). I get 3100 fps from the 220's, and good accuracy (with RL22 and 25). The Woodleighs haven't been as accurate. Barnes made a 250 gr at one time as well, but I haven't seen any in quite a few years. Does Accubond or one of the other bonded bullets come in 220 gr in this caliber? That would be an ideal bullet for the big 8, I think.

I prefer the 200 gr Nosler in my 300 Wby (German built Mk V, 26" bbl). Easy to hit 3000 fps with that bullet, and MOA accurate (again with R22 or MRP/N205). I think the Speer (in my experience anyway) is not well built enough for close shots at those speeds. I wouldn't hesitate to use it at longer ranges, however. Nice shooting, by the way. - dan
 
Thanks guys. I do have some 200gr Accubonds for the 8mm, so will give them a try with RL25. I did test them before, but used RL22 and accuracy was not that great.
 
The 220gr sierras are great for the 8mm rem mag. Infact, if you read in the sierra manual you will find that that bullet was made with a thicker jacket in order to stand up to 8mag speeds. They don't recommend using them in the 8x57. I use H4831 with mine.
 
I will have to try them on game and see how they hold up. With this kind of accuracy, it is hard not to like! Have you chrono'ed them?
 
I haven't personally chroned that load but my nieghbor (who turned me onto the 8 mag and gave me the load) has. It's right around 2850 in his rifle, also a rem 700 bdl but with a muzzle brake. I've seen and helped skin the elk and a couple deer that he's taken with it. I'm still waiting to get my elk draw to try it out myself. We both think that the 220gr bullet makes that cartridge work but we both like heavy for cartridge bullets 95% of the time. The 200gr AB is a good bullet also, I'm going to try it in my 8mm gibbs but the 220's are reserved for my 8 mag.

Looking in the sierra book, imr 7828 looks like it might work. They show imr 4350 as their accuracy load, but only at 2800fps.
 
I will chrono my RL25 load next weekend and post my results. Should be near 3000fps according to Sierra's data. I have 5 boxes of 220gr Swift A-Frames that I might have to do some testing with :)
