I'm just getting started to reload for my 20 and I'm hung up on getting higher brass hulls. I'm shooting a Rem 1100 sporting and plan to load skeet and hunting loads (more skeet). I know, not cost effective but I want to do it none the less. I have some 1x fired low brass to start with but I'd like to pick up some new high brass hulls - what do you all think about the differences between low and high?

Some say it's just cosmetic but it does make sense that there is a difference. Only the metal section is really able to hold onto the chamber walls so if you want to prevent excessive bolt thrust you should use higher brass. I've never done testing myself and haven't read anything but internet theories on it but it does seem to make sense. For the elephant slug guns some people load for they use solid brass hulls so the pressure causes the entire length of the case to grip the chamber walls.

For target load or moderate hunting loads low brass would be fine. Even for heavier loads it shouldn't be too much of a problem unless in a weakly built shotgun. I use high brass for heavy loads (buckshot and slug) just so I can easily tell the difference at a glance.

They are not required for what you say you are going to do with them in a 1100 . They are a real pain in the ass to resize and almost impossible to do accurately without a collect style resizer
Plus you will pay a premium to get them
Cheers
