8x33 from open bolt BD42(H)

Original and East German ammo can be spotty on reliability (ie: duds). Quite perplexing that it doesn't work... I use new Graf and Prvi brass in my BD44, and have never had a problem, I use CCI primers.

Has the chamber been cleaned or polished? Has the firing pin been inspected? Correct length??

Interesting dilemma. Noting like spending $4000 on a rifle to find it doesn't work.... :(

His BD44 also works fine with the same loads that do not in the Bd42(h)
We think the harder CCI priimers are the problem in the open bolt design.
Perhaps too much friction robs the bolt and firing pin momentum.
Softer Federal primers with the same powder load(1 gr less than max) failed move the bolt sufficiently to the rear. Will increase load and are searching for Win. primers

When I was looking at buying the BD44 and BD42(h) I seem to recall that the replicas both fired from a closed bolt. This was a while ago, but I do remember originally thinking that that 42(h) was open bolt firing like the original first versions only to find out that it was closed. I would consider the open/closed bolt thing a red herring and not the source of any problems.

This one is most defintely an open bolt. No two ways about it. I know the current information on the SSD website says closed bolt for this model, maybe the new ones are.

Coyote Ugly.
We knew the firing pin was pushing in the firing pin, not hitting the firing pin. Bolt movement was lethargic. Had a confirmation that the bolt spring should have been the length from the muzzle to the magazine latch from a senior CAF armorer friend of the family. The spring did not make it from the muzzle to the chamber.

A 2 1/2" wooden dowel was placed in the recoil spring portion of the lower receiver so that the spring compressed against it and not the usual place on the lower receiver.
Loads were made slightly hotter. Operation was faultless from that point on.

Now hoping to get proper sized spring from SSD.

Is this a New or Used Rifle Purchase? If used, was it altered? That should be Warranty if New? What does the Dealer have to say about it?

We'll see in a few days.

Oh yes, pictures.
