8x50R Austrian

Anybody got a source for 8x50R Austrian brass, bullets or ammo? I've advertised a couple times in EE without success.

What are the options for ammo for this rifle (Lee Speed in 8mm)? Like to have some correct headstamped cartridges. Kynoch at one time made the
8x50R...hoping a few rounds would be in somebody ammo box.

Thought this form would be the best place to post for folks help. All comments appeciated.

Trade ex carries brass and bullets that would fit the bill. Their dies are out of stock at the moment, so you might try messaging and seeing when they'll return. That's about the only place I can think of.

Make brass from 7.62x54r, bullets are regular .323, nobody make ammo that i know of. If you need dies, I recommend Buffalo arms.

8x50R Austrian brass ? As Desporterizer has mentioned, you will have to make your own as newly made is quite expensive and hard to find. Bullets were .323" but had a special depression on the base that expanded to grab the rifling. The later 8x56R bullets did not and were boat tailed so they had to be a larger diameter to compensate. I don't think regular .323" bullets will work very well but I haven't shot an M95 in the original caliber before.

You have an easier time loading for 8x56R due to newly made brass being avaliable for a good price and the dies are $60 I believe. The only pain are the bullets but Tradeex has them in stock I think.

I learned a lot from this gentleman's analysis of the 8x50R compared to the 8x56R. He even goes into detail about how to reload should you wish. His M95 collection beats any other one I have seen online.

Thanks for the replies.

There's a lot of confusion around this cartridge. The list includes;

8x50R Manlicher .318 bullet
8x50R Austrian .323 bullet (The one I need)
8x50R Lebel
8x50R Siamese

8x50R Austrian dies are available from CH4D in .318 and 323 neck size. Bullet sizing dies also available.

Would like to get some more original ammo and brass. Any leads are greatly appreciated.

It is definitely a mis-understood cartridge. I thought I knew some things about it but that youtube video proved me wrong. If loading supplies were more avaliable, I would certainly pick up an M95 in the original caliber.

I have not seen any original ammo though I suspect it is out there and possibly misidentified at gunshows...etc.

The Siamese cartridge should be interchangeable with the Austrian cartridge, as Siam did issue the 1985 Mannlicher straight pull rifle prior to WW 1.

The Indian .318 sporting cartridge for the civilian-production Lee-Enfields is precisely identical to the Austrian 8x50R. Problem is that they don't export the stuff.

8x50R for the Mannlicher 1888, 1888/90 and 1895 rifles is about the EASIEST conversion there is. Trim 3 to 4mm from the front of 7.62x54R, open out the mouth, charge with correct powder, install a 247-grain RN .323" bullet and fire. Case will blow out a tiny bit and you have the correct brass.
