8x56R any available?

gunshows might be the only place to find 8x56R.

although in the US hornady is making new ammo, whether it is imported is another question.

Try a search on the boards. There was someone who mentioned a few speciffic dealers who carry the new Hornady rounds. Other than that, reload or scour the gunshows.

I think it's possible to form brass out of 7.62x54R, or 45-70 as already mentioned. Check surplusrifle.com, I though I read an article on forming 8x56R brass a while back

I would forget the notion of finding ammo unless you intend to shoot very little (and who does?). There used to be a fair bit of milsurp ammo around but it's pretty much gone (although I have a couple of hundred I'm saving as collector ammo).

In the last couple of years this has become a piece of cake (for reloaders anyways). I go to Dave Friesen www.bcredneck.com for Graf brass and Hornady bullets, and to Andrew Higginson www.higginsonpowders.com for Lee dies and the Lee 0.329" bullet mold. You'll also need a few clips which exist here and there.

Load data is easy and the guns shoot pretty well.

Not to mention that original stuff is Berdan primed, while new brass is Boxer primed.

Always struck me funny that the commonwealth adopted an American system while we adopted the British system. (think we got the better of that deal);)
