I've got some 8mm 250 gr bullets I'm thinking about trying in my M98 8x57. Anyone else experiment with these heavy guys? What powders and primers did you use?

A google search brought up 2180 fps from a 24" barrel with 48 grs of AR2209 powder. It's an Aussie powder I've never seen for sale though.

You can substitute H4350, IMR4350, or RL17 for AR2209 - 48.0 grs will be, or close to a full case. I have used H4831, 48.0 grs up to a full case, but velocites will not be as high.

Thanks guys. It seems like 200gr bullets really are the ideal bullets for the 8x57 case. I'll see what results I get with the 250gr just for fun

I use the 200 Accubond in my 8x57. I am using a nice load of Vihtavuori N550, for very favorable velocities. I have shot a coule of moose with these bullets, and have yet to recover one. Regards, Eagleye.
