Long time no log in. I am looking for data on the 8mm cartridge . I loading 170 gr. speer bullet and have conflicting info. My powder preference is H-380 ,bl-c2 or IMR 3031.Hodgdon lists H380 45gr to 49gr for 170gr bullets and another load lists it at 49gr to 54gr compressed charge. all i can find is confusion. can members lend a hand. Tackleberry.

Load data from Speer Manual #13, 170 gr. Bullet Part #2283
H380 50.0-54.0gr.
IMR 3031 40.0-44.0gr.
C.O.A.L. 2.890"

No load listed for BLC2

Hope this helps.

Alot of manuals show reduced loads which are the equivalent of north american factory ammo.......around 35000psi max loads. This is in defence of the older 8x57j rifles with .318 bores. Any good quality 98 action will handle 50000psi and most of the manuals are now listing loads for this with a warning about using in .318 bores.

I have a Remington 700 "Classic" chambered in 8x57JS. I have not loaded the 170 Speer, due to it's semi-spitzer design, but I have loaded the 180 Ballistic Tip and the 200 Accubond and 200 Partition. I found that Vihtavuori N150 works very well with the 180, reaching 2800 fps without any excess pressure signs. Also shoots under 1" in my rifle. The 200 is close to 2650 with RL 15. If you have a .323 bore mauser 98 or equivalent action, that 8x57 is an impressive performer! Regards, Eagleye.
