Hi Fellas! Got a weird problem. Have PH 8X57 bolt action. It chambers factory Rem 17o's with no issue. I reloaded a bunch of Speer 170's into new Win brass. When I go to close the bolt, just as i am about to turn it...clunk! It stops DEAD. I measured brass and it is new, not stretched.
Ideas? Dang! Loaded a bunch, too! So much for not; test, test, test!

Did you try a re-sized case in the rifle before you seated the bullets? If so then you can say it must be the bullets engaging the rifling. Seat one bullet deeper. Did the round chamber? Try again. If not then I would recommend you pull the bullet, dump the powder and see if the empty brass will chamber easily. If it does not then you should resize the brass until it does enter the chamber easily and fully.

Is it possible that the shoulder is slightly collapsed from seating the bullet?
This causes the case to bulge slightly at the shoulder, and will prevent complete
chambering of the loaded round.
If this is what has happened, you will need to disassemble those rounds, resize
and load them over.
Eagleye.

Its a problem with the brass case. Most likely its bulged as said above. The bullet would just push itself in if the OAL was too long. Get it fitted with an empty resized case before loading the powder and bullet. Take apart the ones that dont work. Make sure your chamber is clean,

Check the crimping function in your seating die. If the shuolders are getting bulged, that could be the reason.
