Good day folks,
I bought a Haenel 1909 in 8x57J from a gunshow yesterday. The fellow I bought it from had a set of dies and some bullets (124gr Norma) with the rifle, but understandably, didn't have any load data.
I also see that everyone's favourite surplus store has .318 200gr bullets in stock, which I reckon would be a dandy bullet for deer.
I understand this is not the world's strongest action, and I'm not trying to turn it into a magnum, I'd just like to a big game capable load with the 200gr bullets. I've always read that most 8x57 handloading data was kept on the low side in defense of someone jamming a .323 into a .318 rifle.
I can't find any .318 specific data, but I feel like a starting load of Hodgdon 8x57JS data would likely be okay?
If I could get a 200gr loafing out at 2200FPS or so, I'd be more than happy.
Thanks,
Cory
