8x57mm Mauser

I've been thinking about getting into reloading and I'd like to make 8mm Mauser ammo that has the Mil-Spec CCI primers to prevent slam fires.

I was wondering if anyone has worked up a moderate load for the 8mm with a ~200gr bullet using the Mil-Spec primers

The CCI 34's are equivalent to magnum primers so becareful if working with max loads. I'm assuming you are loading for a auto loader?

Yup my FN49

I know they are like magnum primers so I was wondering if the load was lets say 50grs instead of just backing off 10% to 45grs would you back off a extra little bit as your reloading to like maybe 15% ??

I've never reloaded before and I still need to get reloading equipment but I figure I should do as much resreach before even thinking of loading

I dont want MAX loads. Or loads to close to max. If the load data says its for 48,000-49,000 rating in pressure I wont go closer then 5% of max just to be on the safe side.

PS Is it really reloading if I plan on just making the ammo to shoot once and not actually "reload" the casings ?? I hear the FN is horrible when it comes to brass so I figure even if it costs me the same as new ammo atleast its safe with a Mil-Spec primer.

You can always adjust your gas port until the brass doesn't get all mashed up. I went out one day and took the upper handguard off and adjusted after every shot until the brass wasn't getting torn apart.

You're likely NOT to get slam-fires with an SAFN - spring loaded firing pin on that girl!

Its not "likly" but I'd rather avoid the problem completly thats why I'm thinking about starting to handload for it

My FN49 prefers either 200gr. Accubond or 180 Ballistic Tip mainly because they feed nice and the tip doesn't get mashed when cycling.
Also mine shoots well with Varget or 4064, and of course # 34 primers.
I prefer Rem. brass and get at least 8 reloads....it does get chewed up, more as pressure/ velocity increases.
When the brass gets pretty bad with nicks & dents, I reload it and fire it in my 8x57 Mauser which takes all the dents out, and I can once again reload it for the FN49.
