9.3x62 Lever Action

I know that Bill Leeper has rebarrelled a BLR in 7mm mag to 358 Norma Mag, so a 30-06 or 270 to 9.3X62 should be a piece of cake for any 'smith who knows what they are doing.

I'm sure Otto Bock would understand, even though he might not approve. :D

It sounds like a great project. You could put any sights on it you liked, though I agree an apreture would be right on this. It could be scoped if you prefered too. The Win95 or BLR should do it easily.

Ya, in interesting idea all right. The BLR would be a decent platform. But, I have personal predjuduces with the look and feel of the long action BLR :(

Now a Win 95 would be the way to go for this little black duck. I remember reading an article about a group of brown bear guides in AK and they boys all packed beat up old Winchesters. They were in Cartridges like .375 Scovill and .411 hawk IIRC. 9.3X62 should be a piece of cake to build on one. Like said a peep sight would be the only way to go...

Standard-length cartridges don't belong in lever actions IMHO. Short actions only.

A 9.3-308 would be an interesting wildcat

The .30/40, .303, .30/03, .30/06, .405win, .35win have all been regulars in the 95 Winchester for 100 years plus. Not too mention the .45/90 and /50/110 in the 86 Winchester. These are all longer rounds. The 9.3 is a bit out of character but it should work. Very many 95Winchesters went to Europe for the Russian army, I'll bet there are some 95s over there rebarreled in 9.3x??. Still does seem strange for a lever Winchester.

Some of the Russian 7.62x54 95s were captured by the Finns and rebarreled to 9.3x54. I would like one in 6.5x55.

Some days I really wonder about you.

That new 338 Federal cartridge would be nice in a lever. Is Sako the only one chambering it?

You could muck around all you want with chambering lever guns for 9.3s, hawks, etc. but still wouldn't end up with a .348 Winchester!

Yeah. The great thing about the .348 Winchester is, you can see where your bullets go,retreive them and use them again later..

The longest shot I ever made on game was with a Model 71 in .348 Win. 428 snowsuit paces on the tundra on a bull caribou. It knocked him flat. Lucky shot maybe but it worked on the first try. Only problem there is finding good 71s is really tough and they are getting very expensive. They are out there though. Realistically if a guy doesn't care about history, the 9.3 lever will perform with a 71. The old 86s in .33 Win are also very good and out there but prices are rising fast on good ones. This 9.3 Win95 or BLR idea may have some merit.

It's already been around (more or less) in the form of the 9mm Mauser (or 9.3x57) only 6mm longer than the .308 case length.

Classic loadings were 245-grain round-nosed bullet (available as a solid or a soft-nose) at 2150 fps. German ammunition used a 247-grain bullet at 2310 FPS. Not quite in 35 Whelen territory, but using modern bullets and powder in a suitible action, one could improve on standard velocities.
