I have one of the Husqvarna 9.3x62 from Trade Ex...I believe its a M96? Anyone know if it could take a 9.3x64 Brenneke conversion?

Thanks for your thoughts.

No. The 96 is too small and weak. A 98 maybe, but the 9.3x62 and 9.3x64 are vastly different beasts.

Besides, you really don't need any more than the x62. Some guys even step back to the x57 after a while. Noel and Why Not? come to mind.

I would not do it to a 96.

While I do believe that it is a worthwhile jump on the 9.3x62, I dont think I would go out of my way to build such a rifle.
One should change the follower and possibly the rails a little to go to the 9.3 x64 which is a larger diameter round then the 62 or 57.

And yes -- I would stick with the 98 action or similar for any such conversion. The 9.3x64 shoots a 286 gr bullet at about 2650 ft/s. That is without pushing the limits as far as some try to do with their 9.3x62. It really does start to be a .375 equivallent and is too much for the 96 action (sure it would work - but for how long?) in my view.

I'm currently awaiting a 9.3 x 64 Brenneke from my gunsmith, built on a 98 action. I've been putting together some loads for it, and in doing research, I've found that some loads list pressures that would give a 96 action some serious trouble. Not saying that it can't be done, but if you're going to do it, then I would suggest going with an action in which the round could be used to its full potential. Just my 2 cents.

Erik.

I don't even load my Brenneke to the max, 286g Partition at 2500fps is what I am using. I just quickly threw a load together and that is what the velocity turned out to be.

I have taken a big black bear and a decent moose with that load. It is PLENTY.

Just Load your x62 up to normal max pressure for that action, you will be a little slower than what I am using but the results will be the same.

I agree Most gunsmith dont' like converting 96's and even if it could be done How long would it work ?

I have the very same light Stiga Sporter you are talking about and cant see myselft wanting to make it kick any harder.

How much flatter will the Brenneke shoot anyways ?

9.3x64 Conversion

Thanks for your comments and thoughts. They pretty much confirm what I suspected, but I really appreciate hearing from others on this, especially considering the combined experience of fellow hunters and shooters such as yourselves. I think the 9.2x62 is great just the way it is...but sometimes you get an itch that is hard not to scratch.

Thanks again.
