What's a good year range to look for condition first of course for a 91/30 in either laminate or Hex/Oct receiver? Bore size is likely all over the map.....Harold

Unless you're fussy about what year a rifle is for your collection, they all shoot well. Yes, bores can range widely. The last batch that Westrifle received has had very good bore conditions. I have two of recent supply that I've slugged with excellent measurements and very strong grooves. For a hundred bucks, it doesn't get much better.

Well Hex/oct receivers were manufactured before the great patriotic war, and the laminate stocks were retrofits that were installed after the war.

Year might not matter as much at this point if you are looking for the bore only.

Was wondering more about poor fit and finish during war time.Hurriedly made etc.....Harold......there's always a M-39

If you poke around on the link that I provided above there is a lot of good info. As for fit and finish, Tula maintained their pre war standards thoughout the war, so you are pretty safe with one of those. Heck, get a Hex receiver Tula; I hear nothing about good things about how they shoot.
