I just bought a new 92FS and I love it, but the plastic recoil spring guide rod looks like something from a cheap toy. I decided to spin up an aluminum one today on the lathe.

Looks much better than the cheapo plastic thing.

Looking around I see many companies make them in stainless, but haven't come across any aluminum ones. Does anyone foresee a problem with this that I am missing? I haven't shot it yet but the action seems just as smooth as before.

I agree that the plastic rod looks and is cheap but mine has been working just fine so I am not worried about it.
How about a range report on how the aluminum one works for you.

I own a 92FS and a 96A1. I've replaced both with stainless steel guide rods and the Girsan 92 compact copy I have already comes with a steel g-rod. Did it improve my follow up shots? Hard to say. The guns are heavy enough to begin with, but I do subscribe to the "every little bit helps" school of thought.

Mind you, I'm nitpicking over groupings in controlled, stress free environments.

I've kept the the plastic guide rod in my 92a1 for years without issue but recently decided to upgrade to the Wilson Combat fluted guide rod mainly for looks. I have yet to shoot it since installation.

Great job by the way savant. Looks factory made.

Beretta made the plastic bits to cut cost... and now they have a steel upgrade parts kit you can buy separately.

I dropped in a SS guide rod... didn't notice any noticeable difference in performance, but just knowing there's added durability has made me happier.

I stand to be corrected but I would have a concern about the rod bending as I doubt that aluminum has the strength of steel or the flexibility of plastic, at least one of which would be a requirement for a substantial guide rod. I also know there are different grades of aluminum so maybe one of the tougher ones would work so I would want to research it first.

very nicely done!

My Girsan had a steel one from the factory, but I replaced it with a multispring one like in the picture above, but not the same brand. its an improvement in followup shots and recoil. I didn't believe it, but it does.

Mine came with a metal rod from the factory plus does not have the you can only shoot yourself once WITHOUT MAGAZINE. Missed the good OLD days :)

Are you aware that the gun FIRES WITHOUT MAGAZINE? You should READ MANUAL BEFORE USE. Oh lol lol lol.

Important thing is, did you engrave a skull 'n' bones on the front facing of the new rod?

I don't understand the marketing behind the plastic parts on the 92. The 92 is a heavy all metal frame gun, and anyone interested in a 92 doesn't want plastic. At a 1000$ price tag Beretta customers shouldn't have to be swapping out ####ty plastic parts right out of the box.

Well I put 200 rounds through it last night and it seems to work just fine. I had 3 consecutive failures to eject, but that was while trying out a friends reloads, all factory ammo seemed to work flawlessly.
