Hey guys. I took my 93R17-FV out to my range on Saturday and ran into some trouble. Has anyone heard of any feed issues on these guns?

The long and the short of it was that despite inserting the magazine correctly, the bolt repeatedly would not push a round into the chamber. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it would just slide over it completely without catching a round. I'd have to coax it forward with my finger to get it to chamber.

I had the chance to try other magazines from my friends, who each had the same rifle, and the same problem occurred using their magazines. I'd say 75% of the time that bolt will just go right over the round without catching it.

Has anyone heard of this problem on that particular rifle? I'm thinking I'll probably have to take it back to the local gun shop where I got it for warranty repair. It's really too bad... She's a great shooter, but it's a bummer to experience this the first time taking a gun out. :(

I have a 93 chambered in 22 WMR and this problem is, sorry to say, quite common. Mine feeds funny too and it seems to vary from mag to mag. THere are some fixes for it but even then they're hit and miss. One thing you might try is using a pair of needlenose pliers and slightly bending the rear tab forward to position the round a bit more forward in the mag. I had some success with that. You may or may not. Like I say, it's hit and miss.

I still sometimes have trouble getting the first round to feed because it's a bit stiff in the magazine. I've found that if I use my thumb to push the rear end of the bolt to move it forward it works quite well. I don't have the "sliding over the round" problem anymore though.

I haven't seen any aftermarket magazines for them. You're right it's a real sweet shooter and it's a shame it has this issue. I've just worked on it as much as I could and live with the rest. In fact I'm taking her out to the range in a short while to play.

I had one with this problem that I returned.

The replacement that I received continues to work just fine.

If I had to guess I would say that the problem is with the guide for the magazine or the magazine catch itself as they dont leave the mag in the right spot to feed properly. Nothing is hugely out of tolerance, but its enough to ruin your trip to the range or gopher patch.

I dont believe it is worth dickering with. Savage made the guns. Savage made the mags. They should make them right!

The wait to get a new one was substantial though...

when you have a loaded mag in the gun look to see if the bolt guide is touching the round in the mag .if so unstock the action lossen the mag rail /bolt guide bolts move the bolt guide as close to the trigger assembly as possible and retighten the bolts .this will allow the rim of the cartridge to come up higher into the chamber.
