My Savage 93R17 is a great gun but I am having a small problem loading magazines into the rifle. The mags fit tight in the floor plate magazine cutout but the cut out in the stock is too wide and the mags usually need to be wiggled around to find the mag well in the receiver. The magazines spine does ride that rail to help guide it but there is enough play that the front doesnt always line up and lock in place. Well this isn't a huge problem as I can wiggle them in it is frustrating when gopher hunting trying to do fast reloads and if the mag doesn't lock it can fall out and I lose a tiny $25 magazine.
It has that awesome looking BSEV laminate stock but it's almost as if the mag well in the stock was made to work with wider magazines, like a single stack .30 carbine mag or something. It looks like I could fix this by building up he inside of the mag well with wood filler or something. Has anyone else had this minor but annoying problem? What's the easiest fix?
