I bought a Spanish Mauser Carbine in VG condition at the Irishtown Gun Show in NB last weekend. The vendor was representing it as a M94 Swedish carbine in 6.5x55. I traded another milsurp for it, but when I got home and tried to find it on the internet, there was no such animal in the Swedish lineup.
i finally found a photo of the Spanish M1895. That was it exactly. No finger groves, sling on the side (no buckle), saddle ring, etc. I dropped a 6.5 bullet down the bore and it dropped right through. I have since fired several 7mm rounds through it with good results. I'm not unhappy with the rifle and most likely would have bought it anyway, knowing what it really was. I would really like to know where it was made. There is no information on the receiver top except the serial number. Did Spain make their own, or were they made in Germany or elsewhere?

Depending on the year of manufacture it could have either been made at Ludwig Loewe Berlin (1896-1897) or it would have been built in Spain at their own plant Fabrica Nacional de Armas Oviedo 1896-1915.

They seem to be well built rifles, the one I have here is a 1907 made in Spain and the bluing and machining is as nice as any of my Swedes.

Please post some pics if possible. I'd love to see the rifle in question.
