97FU vs VZ58--

You have to ask yourself 2 questions.

1. To scope or not to scope?

2. Cheap surplus, or no cheap surplus?

Question 2 may be moot if you plan on a 5.56 vz.58

VZ for the Win! Still in use in the Middle East and the iconic sniper in FMJ. You will not be disappointed.

The only thing that keeps me from buying a T97 is having my face right on the receiver, There have been some kaboom events posted on the forms. On the bright side they are dirt cheap right now selling for as low as 819$ new at sponsors. So if you don't get your face blown up you do get a killer deal. Maybe wear safety glasses? Lots of other neat bullpups to like the P90, fS2000 and Tavor.

VZ58 is fun and no kaboom events I have seen on here, also has a very long warranty of 5 years. Cheaper ammo costs too. Their MSRP is 1400$ now so almost 2x the price. If you shoot allot the costs will be balanced out tho after 3000 rounds.

My vote goes to VZ58

-cheap ammo
-reliable platform

T97, you'll have to tweak it in order to make it work reliably from my reading.

I've owned both and still own the vz in .223. If you're tall/long, the t97 is awkward. Some might find it ok. My t97 was very picky with mags. The VZ with the mag adapter runs flawlessly. Optic mounting on a ftu t97 looks good. I never got that far. Optic mounting on th VZ58 seems hit or miss. With decent ammo, my VZ with 18.5" barrel will ring a 12" gong at 200 fairly consistently with open sights. I suspect a hand guard mounted red dot would improve that. Lots of mixed reports on the side mounted optic mounts available. Enough negative, that I probably won't bother.

I had both. One CZ 858-2P, one CZ 858-2V, one 5.56 CSA Vz 58, and one T97NSR. All I can tell you is I had a tone of fun with all 4 of them and now I have none of them due to the down turn of the economy. If I could only have one, I think id end up with a CZ 858-2V with side folding stock.I can honestly say that one was my favorite.

Honestly I love Czech guns, cz858 was my first gun (7.62x39), great gun but when I tried the t97 I fell in love. It's much better balanced, shoots an inherently more accurate round, better with optics, more affordable and bullpups are just awesome. Full length barrel in less overall length package. Get a lee reloading setup for a few hundred bucks and load .223 for basically he same price as surplus 7.62x39 and non corrosive

I have had a T97, took it on a trade . Shot maybe a dozen mags full and traded it for my 300 Weatherby. My vz58 in 223 I have had for 2 years is awesome, everyone who shoots it loves it, for me it's a FAR better fit. I have thought about selling it many times as I have gotten more into longer range shooting and have #### my SKS,SVT40, and vz58 less, but thus far have been unwilling to part with it..
