98 Mauser carbine

I have just acquired a very nice Mauser carbine,stamped Erfurt, 1915.
The rear sight is pinned on the right side of the ladder so that it cannot be raised higher than 400 metres.
Is this normal?

Amazing. And here I thought idiotic government bureaucrats with stupid ideas were a fairly recent mutation.

There was probably a herd of them giving the Pharaoh a hassle over the building permits for the pyramids.

This law was imposed by the allies after WW2 when Germans were not allowed military arms. Bayonet lugs had to be removed also.

That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Nothing is more effective in disarming a beaten foe than making them aim higher and not allowing pointy things to attach to a rifle.
