98 question

Is it just flukey to find a 98 with original 8mm chambered bbl in an Israeli stock? I know it's been like that at least since the seventies and doesn't look fiddled with. Sorry no pics on this one, but receiver stamped 1938, Model 98, dirty birds, only the bbl and receiver numbers match, chamber confirmed 8mm. Stock is definitely Israeli, gouged 7.62, phospatized buttplate....thanks in advance. Bore is excellent, so was wondering if the Israelis were known to leave any bbl'd actions together?

Not all Israeli Mausers were converted to 7.62x51. However, a 7.92 barrelled action in a 7.62 marked stock would be wrong. The whole point of the stock marking, along with 7.62 receiver marks, was to prevent mixups.
I would suggest that the stock is a replacement, installed after the rifle left Israel.

Original stock was likely stolen to restore a German sporter. I’ve done a few like that, the Israeli guns have always been so cheap and many came with un numbered barrel bands, bolt parts etc.

I have an 8x57 with a 7.62 marked stock. The action was in a "sporter" stock. I have it clearly tagged "NOT A 7.62".
