After looking at the mag couplers for the LAR15 .223 mags, I got to thinking about the 9mm AR mags. The .223 mags really don't look that bad I find, but the little 9mm mags are terrible looking as far as I am concerned. So, I took two of the 9mm mags, and removed the base plates. Next, I took the baseplates and placed them together, and then put the little spacer plate on the opposite side of each baseplate (as they would sit in the mag). There is a hole in each of the plates and baseplates, so I ran a 1/8" poprivet through (it fit perfect), and after lining everything up, I snapped the rivet in place. The mags then just slip on to each lip as they are supposed to, and voila, I know have a full length mag!
Now, getting them apart is a little tricky, as you typically push the inner plate up a bit to get the baseplate off...in this configuration, this is no longer possible. However, you can get a screwdriver into the back of each mag and they still will seperate. Ther is a bit of play between the two mags, which could be fixed by adding a second rivet. Or, a bit of black tape would stop it as well.

The pic below shows the 2 together compared to a full size Uzi mag.

Do you basically need to pry them apart to get them to seperate?

I would definitely buy some polymer couplers similar to the ones made for the .223 mags if they were offered for the 9mm mags. That would probably be all the motivation I would need to buy twice as many mags too. ...cough...Questar!... cough... cough.

I have asked Mark about the CProducts longer 9mm AR mags but he said there is not enough interest to bring them to Canada. I don't care that they have to be pinned to 5 rounds. I just don't like the look of the short mags in the AR.

CProducts has them in 20 and 32rd lenghts (would have to be pinned to 5)

That would be even better than couplers if they are 10 rounders. I would buy 10/20 round mags if they functioned.

That's a good idea for sure. I considered this a while back and found that with use the baseplates separated from each other. Especially of using aluminum pop rivets like I did.

I doubt that two pop rivets would help much more. Maybe metal ones will hold longer. And you'd have to drill more holes. Better yet, a coupler similar to the one made for 223 10 round mags would work ideally.

I had issues with these short CProd mags dropping free and were a pain to pull out being so short, so I thought the more weight of two mags together would fix this. Niet, niet Soviet. I was still pulling them out of the magwell.

I decided using anything other than factory Colt 9mm mags is futile. So I'm sticking to my 5 round OEM's and practice for faster mag changes instead.
