I am currently waiting for my RPAL in the mail and thought I may as well start stocking up on some 9mm while I wait. I was out to the local Service Pistol club and it was brought to my attention that 9mm is fairly cheap to buy but sometimes availabilty might be an issue. So any shooters with a p226 should I be buying 115gr FMJ, 124gr FMJ or 147gr Flat Nose? I noticed it's offered in 115gr/124gr/147gr BEB. What is BEB? I think I even saw some shooters with round nose hollow point rounds. Cheers.

Different guns prefer different bullet weights and types...round nose, truncated cone, etc.
I wouldn't stock up on ammunition until you find out which type(s) your gun works best with.
BEB = Brass Enclosed Base
The fun is in shooting a ton of ammo....just trying to find which one 'she' prefers!:D

Actually, most 9mm guns work just fine with most 9mm; it's just one or two that cause issues. Stay away from ammo with alloy (a.k.a. alum) cases thou.

Also, in general, ammo with heavier bullet will cost more, have lesser felt recoil and make holes in target a little higher as opposed to lighter bullets.

You'll need your PAL or RPAL card to buy the ammo. I know a place in Ottawa that sells 100 pack Winchester USA 9mm 115gr FMJ for $23. I don't work for them, so I'm not going to post the name. PM me if you're interested.

I've personally been staying away from metal cases as well. Most people say they are okay, but I've also heard some horror stories. I wouldn't use a metal punch or metal brush on my guns either. Factory brass are less then $0.01 per round more then factory metal if you do your homework.

115/124 FMJ's are standard loads and will function in any 9mm pistol. If they don't, you have other issues. You can stock up on ammo now but without a PAL, someone else will be buying it.

I was told at the club all you need is your POL not a RPAL to buy 9mm. But that didn't really make any sense to me at the time. Why would a store sell you 9mm ammo if you don't have a restricted PAL.

yes, if you have a POL you can buy ammo, if you are waiting for your licence, and dont have any other card then no you can not buy ammo.

I thought POL's were long gone expired and non-renewable :confused:
As already stated, you don't need a R-PAL to purchase 9mm or any other so-called 'pistol' round. There are rifles chambered in .357 and .44 magnum for example.

Well I went to the local sporting goods store to buy some ammo with my POL. I picked up 200 rnds of 115 gr 9mm no problem. The girl barely looked at my card. So, yes you can but 9mm with a POL. Cheers.
