What is the extension at the botton of the mag well? is it part of the "mag block" for the 9mm conversion?

That's diffrerent from any of the ones I have seen. We have Colt's that we use on the job and inside the rear end of mag well there is a solid peice of metal that only allows a 9mm mag to be inserted.

There are number of mag block systems for the 9mm AR

The one you see in your picture is a VM Hytec

VM-Hytec - Its claim to fame is it uses UNMODIFIED UZI mags . An Uzi mag has its mag catch slot very low down, hence the VM block extends down. These are available from Brownells and Midway. There is no reason to get this system unless you have a ton of Uzi mags lying around . They will not function with "Colt Style"

Colt Style Block - this and similar versions use a "Colt SMG style " magazine, or a Modified Uzi Mag . You need to machine a higher slot . There are dimension prints on the internet if you want to do this yourself

Back in the day people modified UZI mags because the "Colt" mags were insanely expensive. Now that CP Products makes a "Colt Mag" thais seems to be the way people are going.

You can also purchase the Promag RRA magazines through Questars ( site sponsor and great to deal with ) . The reason this is the way to go in Canada is this is a legal 10rd 9mm AR magazine . All other ( uzi , colt style ) need to be pinned to 5 rounds

The easiest Colt style block to find is the RRA from Questars. They do not activate the bolt hold open

The best Colt style block are the Hahns ( Brownells ) . The feedramps are far better made . Having said that the RRA works fine as well

The Hahns are available in top load , bottom load and dedicated . The Hahn top load does not activate BHO .

They do if factory Colt mags are used, but I'm pretty sure you're referring to an UZI mag and not the RRA block in particular.

Cool Yule.
