Hey, folks.

I find myself with a vast supply of 9mm and no great affection or ability for handgun shooting. I'm thinking an 9mm AR upper might be the way to handle this.

What do I need to know? Any issues I should be aware of? Any suppliers you can recommend? What kind of money am I looking at for this?

Grazia,

Dan

I priced out the parts to build a 9mm AR on Questar website and it was going to be very expensive by the time it was done.
I ended up finding a Bushmaster Carbon-15 that had a cracked upper receiver which I replaced with an upper I had lying around and couldn't be happier with how it turned out. It shoots great and is extremely reliable.

If you buy a complete upper you will still need a buffer, magwell adapter, hammer (depends on which bolt style comes with your upper), my rifle uses colt pattern magazines which can be found but they aren't everywhere and they aren't cheap. The 9mm AR is a great carbine for shooting inside 100 yards, beyond that you can still hit stuff but it takes a bit of practice to get your holdovers right.

They used to carry a couple of other brands of magwell adapters but I can't find them today.

Good luck and be sure to post pics when you're done

OK, so:

Magwell adapter: $239.99
Buffer: $40.00
Otherwise complete upper: $979.00 - $1149.00
Total: c. $1200, and that assumes the hammer I have is OK and I don't have to shell out more to make that work, and that I can find magazines, and that they're free... and all payable in $1.30 dollars. Getting a bit steep for my frugal budget.

Any of you had any experience with the JR Carbine? They look to be good kit. I've found the sticky thread at the top of this subforum - those who have 'em seem to like 'em...
