9mm Barrel in a Model 96

Can I simply take a Beretta replacement 9mm barrel for a model 92 and put it in my 96 and start shooting?

Or do I require an entire slide assembley?

You will need a new slide because of the extractor.

it may work fine with the 96 slide, but it may not. I've known people who it has worked for.
Also the feed ramp on the 96 is slightly different so that may not let it work either.
