Hello guys. I just bought an old 1896 Broomhandle Mauser but the rifling and barrel have been bored away to 9mm. It is registered as 9 mm.
Does anyone make a 9mm sleeve that could be placed in the bore after it is bored out larger?
What about 7.63 sleeve (if not 9mm) ?
Is this the sort of job any gunsmith can do or does it take a specialist?
Any help would be appreciated.

I would think you would want to find an experienced gunsmith who has done this sort of thing before.
There was a chap in the US who was putting new bores in the shot out Chinese guns that flooded in a number of years ago.
A M96 barrel isn't all that meaty, not much room to fool around.
If it were my gun, I would be inclined to ream the bore enough to clean it up nicely and increase the size to the point that I wouldn't be afraid of the liner diameter being too small in the chamber area, then turning a sleeve from a piece of rifle barrel, and chambering it to 7.63 Mauser.

I suggest you call Barry Jensen at Bits of Pieces in Delta, BC, and ask him about doing this job. He sleeved a barrel for me. Does truly excellent work.
