I live in New Zealand, I have a Police issue Pistol Permit and own many pistols, Military rifles and collectables. I am struggling to obtain Browning 9mm Long Brass. BRASS ONLY, once fire boxer primed. This pistol is lovely to shoot, but I'm running out of Surplus ammo to use in. Can anyone assist:wave:

From Wiki (pfft!) How reliable is that?

"The cartridge is now obsolete and it is hard to find reloadable brass for this ammunition; one option handloaders have is to take the .38 Super and shorten it to the right length."

Until I found a cheap source of loaded 9mm BL this is exactly what I did. It works fine. In fact the 38 Super is a semi-rimmed case just like the 9mm BL so when you trim & size them they are virtually identical to 9mm BL.

EDIT: I see that Tradex (tradexcanada.com) lists new manufacture boxer primed 9mm Browning Long ammo made by Prvi Partizan for $29.95/50. If you can't get it shipped from Canada maybe some NZ dealers could get it from Prvi for you.

Marstar here carries it too. Why not give Privi Partizan a call and see if they'll ship you brass?

Winchester still makes the 9x21 cartridge as well as the brass. I wouldn't want to shoot the factory loads in one of the early pistols but I do in my Spanish Destroyer rifle and there haven't been any signs of over pressure. The brass is reloadable and so far decent.

The 9x21 is a different case than the 9mm Browning Long. The 9x21 is a lengthened 9x19 (9mm luger / parabellum), and the 9mm BL has a head similar to the 380 acp (also was known as 9mm Browning short) or the 38 acp/ 38 super.

The option to trim some 38 acp cases might be your best bet, as long as you don't get a pistol chambered for that round.

My guns don't seem to notice the difference. The 9x21 case feeds just fine into both the pistol and the rifle with no alterations needed. A friend with an Astra 400 put me onto this years ago and it seems to work just fine.

The 9mm Browning Long has a case length of .890", compared to .833" for the 9x21. If it works for you, it's definitely not headspacing on the case mouth. The 9mm BL has a semi-rimmed case, while the 9x21 is rimless. I would guess that the extractor is holding the case in position.

A better option, in my opinion, would be to trim some 38 ACP or 38 Super (.900" case length) to the 9mm BL length. These two also have a semi-rimmed head.
