9mm Conversion for L Frame Revolver

Interesting, think the 929/986 (9mm) barrel and the 357 barrel have the same diameter @ .356
Only difference will be twist rate, 1/10 for the 929/986 and prob 1/18 for the 357. Unsure if that would be a concern.

I think a heavier bullet (147 grain 9mm) might be better than lighter ones?! Not sure either if the twist rate has an huge impact?! I might load some 147grs 9mm bullets in some 38 special cases and see how they do!

I thought I read there were some concerns with the Ruger convertible 38/357 to 9mm SAA pistol. Some people thought the the barrel bore sized for 38/357 was not giving good accuracy for the 9mm round. If this is the case, I wonder if you reloaded a 9mm case with a 38/357 projectile, would the round still fit in the chamber?

Most likely no! I was thinking though, loading some 9mm projectiles into a 38/357 case and see what the accuracy would be like before committing to buy the conversion kit!
I would use a 9mm sizing die to size the upper 1/3 of the 38 case to give it better neck tension! I will play around with it a bit and see what I can come up with!

125 grain .357 bullets will usually work in 9mms.

158s may be too long for auto pistols; seating bullets deep enough to clear the rifling results in a bulged case. This wouldn't be a problem with a revolver cylinder, where there is plenty of room to load the rounds long.

most 357/38 barrels are .357 bore. 9mm industry standard is .355. not a huge difference but the ruger convertibles did not have a stellar reputation for accuracy in 9mm. In 38/357 the shot well. I imagine if you handloaded 38 bullets into 9mm cases you'd get good functional accuracy from the conversion. i'd probably not make a regular habit of shooting 357 jacketed rounds in a 9mm auto, as it would raise pressures. Lead I wouldn't worry about in the least.

Even jacketed .357 bullets can be used in 9mm. Maximum pressure will likely be reached at a lower powder charge, but it should still be possible to create a usable load.
