If u have a 124gr 9mm or a 147gr 9mm wats the difference? More recoil? Less? Does it stress the gun more? I'm sorry if this is ameuture hour questions but I'm just interested in those new xmetal hiteck 147 or the ivi from sfrc but they cost a lot more.

Thanks for any input that doesn't just call me retarded.

147 grain should in theory recoil less. I can't really tell the difference in a G19 between the 3 common bullet sizes. Though my gun hates 147 grain (Lone Wolf barrel) so i don't shoot it any more.

I would think you get different points of impact. So you would just find where you like to hold on target (6oclock, dead on or whatever) and go with the weight that gives you the best results.

I think the bullet weight might not cause a bigger difference than the brand so TC if you wanna compare compare the weight under the same brand. I tried a few diff brand (all 124gr) among Sumbro, XMetal, FOC reload, Federal Eagle, CCI Blazing Brass XMetal and Federal Eagle has the highest felt recoil to me, CCI, FOC seems to be the lowest and Sumbro seems to be in the middle. But that is just how I feel. Some other might felt differently. So do try out a few diff before finding the one you like the most. Just because they are the same weight doesn't mean they are all the same I think.

I feel less recoil from 147gr than 124gr in my Glock 17. 115gr is definitly snappier than the 2 other weights. Also 147gr feels quieter and produce better grouping for me.

Try both, buy a lot of whichever shoots best

I love the light pop a 147gr offers.
But I get better accuracy out of my guns with 124/125gr. I have a nice load for them that almost has the same feel as my 147gr loads.

Generally 147gr 9mm rounds are subsonic and 124/115gr 9mm is supersonic, so that's why it sounds quieter than the other two... because it is!

use the 124gr, its less expensive cause you are buying less metal and if is for target shooting, less $ is better in my view. 124gr will give you more velocity anyway. Doesn't stress the gun so long as they meet SAAMI specs for pressure which they all will if its factory new ammo vs reloaded. Recoil for me feels more or less the same. Hold the gun firmly and you s.b. fine (its "only" a 9mm :)).

have fun,

147 should recoil with a less abrupt impulse than 124 when both are loaded to achieve IPSC Minor standards. In practice, the difference is quite small and in loadings that don't hold to IPSC Minor, it will depend on the velocity to which the ammo is loaded.

You could easily have 147 grain +P ammo that is much snappier than 124 grain competition ammo.
