Hello,

I'm using 115 gr LRN bullets with 231 or Bullsey powder. I bought a Hornady 9MM/ 9X21 die set today at the gun show. I have correct 9MM largo brass which I know is the same length as 38 AUTO/ 38/super. All the load data I can find is based on FMJ or other types of bullets. My question is does anyone have the recipe for 115 gr LRN using 231 or bullsey? I'm trying to guage it based on 38 auto data. Can I use 9MM data? Thanks

PS Ill be shooting Astra and Star Pistols.

Don't use Bullseye... I have a shattered bbl of a Steyr 1912 that I was reloading with Bulleye. The minuscule amounts can get out of hand right now.
I have no idea how to make such a thing happen... but I've a couple boxes of milsurp 9mm Largo that are excess to my needs.

Out of a 1911 Para 5" match grade barrel i've recorded the following for 231 firing 115 grain LFN: 3.3 gr = 966 f/s, 3.5 gr = 1033 f/s, 3.7 gr = 1066, 4.3 gr = 1167 f//s. hope this helps

Astra is blow back design, so its really not suited for high pressure load. Star can handle more pressure, but as 1911 design its made with subsonic loads in mind. So no you should not use 9x19 data as its way too overpressure for these guns.
Look for loads that gives you 700-900fps. Same load may not cycle your star, but may be way too hot for the astra, its really depends on the gun.

Usually in published manuals they give you the velocity of the FMJ bullet with certain load, if starting load for FMJ is subsonic or below 800-900 fps then you can use that starting load with led bullet of same weight, which will usually give you max velocity for led. It can be reduced a bit further to what is published for use of led bullets to tailor it for particular gun.
