I know there is data on various sites regarding 9mm major, but I would like to hear from people who are shooting 9 major and what loads they like.It would save me time and money as I dont have alot of different powders to just try.Any info/data would be great!

I'm sorry, I won't quote exact laods for liability purposes, but I can tell you that I've loaded 4756, HS-6 (also known as WW 540 and S6S) and VV 3N37 with 124gr bullets for major 9. What I know won't work is 3N38 or H108.

I had a CZ 85 converted to 9mm major about 15 years ago. It had a fully supported chamber and compensator. For me the downside was reloading, using AA#5 it was almost a full case and using a Dillon progressive press, there was a tendency for powder to spill out when advancing stations. The round worked fine in operation but I wouldnt go that way again.

I'm using 3N37...spillage is minimal if you're smooth on the handle (I'm using a 1050) I cut a few coils off the spring that tensions the ball bearing...and it's not as snappy going into position.

Not having to pick brass far outways the little bit of powder I have to clean off the press every 1,000 or so rounds...

Good to know, thanks, but I have given up pistol shooting, so have gotten rid of my handguns and now only load rifle on a single stage press.

What powders do you have?

I have Bluedot,titegroup,700-x,no 7,and bullseye right now but I dont mind picking up other powders.Just dont want to get stuck with the wrong stuff.I see from other posts that it sounds like all loads are full case/compressed loads and spilling is an issue.I also use a turret press.

It depends on your press...

Honestly...I spilled more powder manually indexing my 550 than I do on the 1050. It did take a bit of tuning...and time on the press to get used to cycling it smoothly on the up stroke...

3N37 is probably the most popular powder for 9 major...

Loading 9 mil in general is a pain in the ass (tapered case so you need to lube...and you get the odd crimped primer)

what make / model of press are you using?

I use a lee pro 1000 and I realize they are not the best or smoothest, but I have used these ones for 10 years now and still like them.It seems from this thread that 3n37 is the powder of choice so I will start there, and thanks to everyone for the help and info.

I keep a small compressor by the bench and every time I reload the primer feed...I give the press a quick blast of air to clean up any powder that may have spilled out (I just cover the two rounds on the shell plate that would have powder in them) It keeps things running smooth...3N37 is a good choice for major 9

Good luck

I used to load 9x19 to the old major using a number of different powders. I have successfully used; Win 540, Win WSF, Accurate #7 and IMR 4756.

4756 worked very well in this application.

I will be loading 125 gr lead round nose. Are your bullets fmj or lead?Trubor! That is a sweet pistol!I looked at them but just bought the steelmaster from Armco.Want to change spring set in steelmaster and try major, that way I can shoot minor and major.

all of these projectiles are copper plated, STeelmaster or Matchmaster is my next in mind, but no budget yet, better inquire from STI OR Sean of Freedom Ventures regarding Smaster for major load.

I will also contact Freedom and have a chat with them about it.I was planning on it anyway because I now need a new holster, mag holders ect ect.And I am a lefty.

John, pls take note of the OAL of my loads, THEY are a little longer.

I did notice your oal and thought it may be what your STI likes, feeding ect.If not let me know your reason as I am not a loading expert.I load one way in general.Find a load I really like, and that causes little to no problems.then I load thousands of rounds over winter and shoot that load all summer. So the info I get from you and others is very helpfull!

I have to load it longer so I will have enough space for more powder to make major. a secondly Im using my 38super mag for my 9 major.
