9mm or .45 acp for first handgun

get 45 ACP 1911 - its so much more fun to shoot. You will have troble finding cx4 in 45 ACP though. Screw the ammo cost issue, sacrifice everything and buy ammo.
 
Another vote for the 1911

Agree with those that suggest the 1911 is the one to start of with. Many moons ago, started my shooting days with a surplus Gov't model and eventually saved coin to move up to a Colt Series 70 Gold Cup. Get used to the .45's punch and your shooting proficiency with other smaller caliber pistols will be enhanced. Now shoot 9mm exclusively for pistols, but still miss the 1911's dead-on accuracy plus the way it fits my palm. Others mention the cost of firing and, agreed, the 9's are more affordable, but pistol experience gained from feeling comfortable with a 1911, is irreplaceable. Nevertheless, whatever caliber you end up getting, just shoot it consistently and both of you will be happy! :canadaFlag::sniper:
 
for a very first handgun... probably a 22

I started with a 45... I love 45's browning knew what he was doing.... but 9mm is cheaper then 45 to shoot and if you like the wimpy pop-pop of a 9mm enjoy...
 
dont bother with 22. it gets bored real soon. soon as in after the first 100 rounds with it and you would want a bigger gun. get a real gun ( 9mm+) at first and 22 later when you think the ammo for the gun you like gets too costly.
 
9 mm a real gun? Go with the .45 (realer gun) and when you need (won't take long) another gun buy yourself a .357 wheelgun. If ammo cost is a factor get a 9and a .45 later and then a .357 and a .44 and maybe a .454 or .50. Remember that in the end whoever has the most wins.
 
I think you should buy the gun you want... Forget what anyone else thinks... I started at a club that said.. oh you cant join unless you buy a .22 first and learn how to shoot it.. then i bought a 9 mm XD and they all said.. why did you buy that crappy gun for. Then i left that club full of complaining whining old men and joined a real handgunners club where they do action shooting and realized that all the stuff they were telling me was wrong and i had to start fresh with everything in training for IPSC and IDPA... So the Moral of the Story.... Go with your Gut.. Get the Gun you Want.. and forget what anyone else says.. I listened and am kicking myself all the way to the bank.. and back..

OK I made my mind up I'm getting a 1911, Tommorow I'm going to the gun shop in my town and debating with the expert there which of the 4 I want. my eyes are on the Norinco cause of the price cant go wrong for 400 bucks and they are giving my 4 mags

i used to hate 9mm until i got a CZ shadow couple weeks ago for ipsc. if you ask me 2 weeks ago, i would say 45. 9 mm is not as real s 45 but you could at lease do some real training with the 9. you could only learn a few things from a 22 and it gets bored way too soon.first hand gun i bought was chambered in 44 magnum, then i work my way down from there. 45, 40 then 9. shooting 9mil feels like shooting airsoft now.

:agree: There is absolutely nothing wrong with Norinco 1911's, as far as the cost of 45 ammo goes, get into reloading as quick as you can, it narrows the gap considerably, and makes it easy to 'stockpile' 'thousands of rounds' of ammunition (as they say on TV) :D
 
Get a Ruger KP345 and go .45ACP :)
Also get into reloading... you'll love it and it's relatively cheap.
Save the brass from the retail ammunition you shoot for reloading later.

This will fit nicely on your hand... 9mm are cheap...brass are easy to find...:D
