9mm pistol round for deer?

So I was reading on some forums in the USA where guys hunt deer with hand guns. Obviously we are not grown up enough for that sort of thing in Canada but apparently we are permitted to have 9mm rifles. With 18 inch barrels they run almost 1300 fps
There are a number of these 9mm rifles on the market that are not restricted, so my question is this…

Even though a 9mm is less than a 338 Lapua magnum which of course we all agree is the only round large enough on the planet to ethically kill a deer…. (only inside 30 yards though)

Do any of you guys have experience using a 9mm on deer?

I've seen videos of people hunting deer with 10mm Glocks. Why not just use a proper rifle? Hunting rifles are cheap.

Just putting this out there, but deer are poached all the time in the United States with .22LR, shoot it in the head and it drops dead.

Anything pistol caliber I would make it a head shot so it rules out a wounded animal running away and suffering for quite a while.

I've never shot deer with a 9mm but .38 special and .357mag I have, but only with head shots under 70 yards away.
 
Inside 25 yards, in the head. Other wise no. I don't believe a lot of the hype with caliber selection being inefficient, but I wouldn't suggest that, maybe asking for a "never do that again" type of experience.
 
Sure, it would work. Far from the best choice, though.

Ammo would be an issue as it will be hard to find jsp ammo in 9x19. It will be a hand load only show.

Factory 9mm out of my NR berreta storm carbine is close to .357mag out of my 6" S&W 686. .357 out of a handgun isn't a bad choice at all... But for some reason 9mm out of a carbine is.

Again, not my first choice but in a pinch it would do the trick.
 
I don't know about 9mm, but I've thought about using my .40 carbine. I've clocked 180 gold dots up to 1300, but they were kinda wild. Should be able to find a stable accurate load at 1200. 1200 is 575 ft/lbs. My 405 grain home cast plinking load for my 45/70 are 899ft/lbs at 1000 fps.. I would be more comfortable with that one, but the .40 would be fine as long as I was real comfortable with placement.
